Old Style Mec metal crimp starter. Hi: I'm looking for some help in finding a 6 pt metal insert for a old style Sizemaster sn77 press. I believe any of the old 600 jr, or versamatic will work. I have the press with a metal 8 pt. starter die. I order one from Mec last week , but I received one of the new 6 pt starter crimp dies.Changing reloading dies on a Dillon Precision 550 or 650 press is quick and easy. Once setup in a die plate, takes less than a minute to change from the 243 Win to the 308 Win. However, the Dillon 1050 press changeover is such a complicated issue that one just buys another press. I do not like the new ones at all! Hard to remember, but I think one issue is the ejector bolt is different on the deprime die, and the way the die mounts to the frame. I replaced the plastic spindex that was on my 20ga grabber with an old one off an old 600 jr. I think the work much better. When loading new I fired hulls on my 600 set up for 3” hulls, the old style works far better at sitting the initial crimp. Those are both Pre '82 Models. The front of the Base Assembly is open. With '82 on models the base is closed in the front. Bars and Bushings you can get directly from MEC, many local gunshops, or any of the online dealers like Gamaliel Shooting Supply and Midway USA.
